PAROUSIA SECOND COMING of Jesus Christ: The Vatican, Pope Francis, Patriarch Kirill and President Putin’s Holy War in Ukraine
The Vatican says that Pope Francis would be willing to facilitate dialogue to help stop the war in Ukraine.
A large majority of the Ukrainian population identifies as orthodox Christian and their religious leaders have publicly condemned the invasion. Sadly, Russian Patriarch Kirill openly supported Moscow’s invasion. This has splintered the worldwide Orthodox Church and is raising fears of insurmountable religious strife. As Patriarch, Kirill said that Putin’s (dictatorial) rule is a miracle.
Kirill also openly supported Putin’s presidential bid in 2012 and said that Putin corrected the historically wrong path of Russia after coming to power, and conducted a special prayer ceremony in honor of Putin’s re-election twice, on May 7, 2012 and in May 2018.
Moscow’s Patriarch Kirill has made no bones about where his loyalty lies; he’s spoken of Russia’s opponents (Ukrainians) as evil forces portraying Ukraine as a nation succumbing to what he calls sinful western practices such as gay pride parades and other sexual deviant immoral practices.
Forbes reported on February 20, 2009 that, “Kirill, who was the Metropolitan of Smolensk, succeeds Alexei II who died in December after 18 years as head of the Russian Church. According to material from the Soviet archives, Kirill was a KGB agent (as was Alexei). This means he was more than just an informer, of whom there were millions in the Soviet Union. He was an active officer of the organization.
Neither Kirill nor Alexei ever acknowledged or apologized for their ties with the security agencies.” Further reporting from March 7, 2022 from The Guardian’s Emma Graham-Harrison interviewed local Ukrainian’s for their opinions about Kirill and the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine. The response was mostly a pessimistic view of Kirill and his motives towards Ukraine based on his past as a KGB agent:
Like many Ukrainians who no longer trust the Russian-linked churches in their country, Ukrainian Christians are particularly wary of the Moscow Patriarch, Kirill, who according to material from Soviet archives was a government agent before the fall of the USSR. “Kirill is a KGB guy, and he supports all aggression against Ukraine,” he said, but asked not to give his last name, worried like many in the town about community tensions about the church. “He’s a bastard, not a religious leader.”
In Ukraine some 30 million orthodox Christians are split between a self-governing church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church which is part of the Moscow patriarchate. Since the invasion the rival leaders have been united in their condemnation of Russia with some churches left not even able to provide a sanctuary from the assault.
Many clerics in Ukraine are now joining calls for a complete split from the Moscow church and while Kirill preaches justification, Ukraine’s four and a half million Catholics are looking to Pope Francis, the Vicar of Rome, to wage peace. https://www.secondcoming.org
Ukrainians are leaning to become more like the west, which is further fueling the Holy War.
Pope Francis has called it a war which shows “death, destruction and misery.” He has not named Vladimir Putin as the aggressor. Nor has he called it a Holy War. In this conflict many people have been asking themselves why is Putin doing all this? How important is faith for Putin’s Holy War?
In this Holy War, religion plays an enormous and important role. While it’s very difficult to gauge how important it is for Putin or how sincere he might think his religious commitments are. There is a very long history in in Russia of essentially recruiting political and religious “soldiers” or “agents” from among the population to support political crusades and elections. Most notably the state has had a history of infiltrating the churches, using KGB agents or party loyalists, and then slowly and methodically controlling the messaging of the church. Control of the media and the church is a tactic that many dictators have used to control the masses.
The closeness and the control of both church and media messaging, has been essential for Putin to rally the population to support the war.

In Russia, it is church and state, hand in hand.
It will telling, if this Holy war will be solved by worldwide trade and banking sanctions against Russia. Or will Pope Francis work out a peace accord between the KGB infiltrated Russian Orthodox Church and the west leaning Ukrainian Christians? Will Pope Francis fulfill prophecy and become the World Peace Maker?
