Part Eight in a Series.
Jesus foretold that natural, economic, and military disasters will multiply and intensify, like a woman’s contractions in labor, leading up to the Parousia and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
E.G. White indicates that the world will be catapulted to its end by means of a “sudden and unlooked for calamity” of either natural, economic, or military.
We can expect that as disasters increase as noted in Matthew 24, some specific calamity of major proportions will strike the world and thus set in motion the Final Events of history.
The Signs of the Times and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ are real.
” Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Matthew 24: 3-8
It is in crisis that character is revealed.
So now a sudden and unlooked- for calamity, something that brings the soul face to face with death, will show whether there is any real faith in the promises of God.
It will show whether the soul is sustained by grace. The great Final Test (Sunday Law) comes at the close of human probation when it will be too late for the souls need to be supplied. COL 412
It has been shown that the United States is the power represented by the beast with lamb like horns. And that this prophecy will be fulfilled when the United States shall enforce Sunday observance, which Rome claims as the special acknowledgement of her supremacy.
The assertion that God’s judgments are visited upon men for their violation of the Sunday- Sabbath will be repeated; already it is beginning to be urged. And a movement to enforce Sunday observance is fast gaining ground. GC 579-580

Satan works through the elements also to garner his harvest of unprepared souls.
He has studied the secrets of the laboratories of nature, and he uses all his power to control the elements as far as God allows.
Satan has control of all whom God does not especially guard. He will favor and prosper some in order to further his own designs, and he will bring trouble upon others and lead men to believe that it is God who is afflicting them.
Satan is exercising his power. He sweeps away the ripening harvest, and famine and distress follow. He imparts to the air a deadly taint and thousands perish by the pestilence.
These visitations are to become more and more frequent and disastrous. Destruction will be upon both man and beast.
The great deceiver will persuade men that those who serve God are causing these evils. The class that has provoked the displeasure of Heaven will charge all their troubles upon those whose obedience to God’s commandments is a perpetual reproof to transgressors.
It will be declared that men are offending God by the violation of the Sunday Sabbath.
God never forces the will or the conscience; but Satan’s constant resort, to gain control of those whom he cannot otherwise seduce, is compulsion by cruelty. Through fear or force he endeavors to rule the conscience and to secure homage to himself.
To accomplish this, he works through both religious and secular authorities, moving them to the enforcement of human laws in defiance of the law of God. Those who honor the Bible Sabbath will be denounced as enemies of law and order, as breaking down the moral restraints of society, causing anarchy and corruption, and calling down the judgments of God upon the earth.
Political corruption is destroying love of justice and regard for truth; and even in free America rulers and legislators to secure public favor, will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance.
Liberty of conscience, which has cost so great a sacrifice will no longer be respected.
In the soon coming conflict we shall see exemplified the prophets words “the dragon was wroth with the woman and went to make war with the remnant of her seed which keep the commandments of God and have the testimony (faith) of Jesus Christ.” Revelation 12: 17
